Naturalization Civics Test Restored to Previous Version

Naturalization Civics Test Restored to Previous Version

The changes keep on coming!!! The Biden administration announced on Feb. 22 it will be reverting back to the 2008 version of the naturalization civics test. Upon review, USCIS determined that the updates to the test under the previous administration put in place barriers to naturalization. The current administration’s stated goal is to increase access to naturalization.

USICS has shared the following information for applicants and legal services providers:

“Applicants who filed their naturalization applications on or after Dec. 1, 2020, but before March 1, 2021, with an initial examination (interview) before April 19, 2021, will have the choice to either take the 2008 civics test or the 2020 civics test. We will notify applicants who are affected by the change. If the initial interview is scheduled on or after April 19, 2021, applicants will take the 2008 civic test.

This is a big deal to all of our clients who have filed their naturalization application after December 1. We have given all of those clients the wrong study materials. Your paralegal should reach out to you soon with the correct form of the test. If you do not receive new study materials soon please give us a call.
